Metabolic fate of hesperidin, eriodictyol, homoeridictyol, and diosmin.

چکیده
Three metabolites appearing in the urine of animals after the ingestion of the flavonol quercetin (1, 2) having been identified, our interests were next centered on similar studies of several citrus flavonoids. Here again our primary concern was to find evidence, if any, that these compounds are absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract after oral ingestion and, secondly, if absorption does take place, to identify the breakdown products. A preliminary report has already been published (3). Hesperidin and its aglycon hesperetin, eriodictyol, and homoeriodictyol are flavanones, whereas diosmin and its aglycon diosmetin are flavones (Fig. 1). Homoeriodictyol has not been isolated from citrus products but is included because of its structural similarity to the citrus flavanones. One other citrus flavanone, naringin, is currently being investigated in regard to its metabolic fate, and the results will be reported in a subsequent publication.

متن کاملMetabolic and glucosuria studies on naringin and phloridzin.
The metabolic fate of three flavonoids, hesperidin, eriodictyol and diosmin, isolated from citrus fruits was reported recently by Booth, Jones, and DeEds (2). A fourth flavonoid, naringin, which can be isolated readily from grapefruit, was also investigated as a potential precursor of metabolites in the urine of the rat and human. Because phloridzin is similar to naringin in structure, the form...
متن کاملSimultaneous Determination of Diosmin and Hesperidin in Pharmaceuticals by RPLC using Ionic Liquids as Mobile Phase Modifiers
Diosmin and hesperidin are natural flavonoid glycosides found in various plant materials, mainly in citrus fruits in different concentrations. Diosmin for pharmaceutical use is obtained mainly semi-synthetically from hesperidin. Hesperidin often accompanies diosmin as a natural impurity in different pharmaceutical formulations; therefore, a simple, fast and precise method for the simultaneous a...
